About this coin

Europe's best-selling gold coin: pure gold, a wide 37 mm face, and the Vienna Philharmonic's instruments on the reverse. Contains 1 troy oz of fine gold (.9999). Legal tender with a face value of €100 (EUR), which is symbolic — its value is the metal. Year of our choice; condition brilliant uncirculated unless stated. Packaging: Individual capsule or tube of 10.

The Vienna Philharmonic is Europe's best-known gold bullion coin and has been struck by the Austrian Mint since 1989.

The design is unusual for bullion: instead of a head of state, both sides show music. The obverse carries the great organ of Vienna's Musikverein concert hall, and the reverse a group of orchestra instruments. Since 2002 the coin has been denominated in euros.

It holds one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold in a wide, thin format, 37 mm across, so it feels larger in the hand than most one-ounce coins.

Premiums sit close to the Maple Leaf, and the coin trades easily across Europe as well as in the United States. We ship the year we have in stock, in a capsule or a tube of 10.

Questions

How is the price of the Gold Philharmonic 1 oz calculated?

It contains 1 troy oz of fine gold. At the current spot price of $4,190.28/oz that metal is worth $4,190.28; our premium for one unit is $180.18 (4.3%), paying by bank transfer. The price updates with spot until you lock it at checkout for 10 minutes.

Why is the card price higher?

Card networks charge us a fee on every card payment. Our list price is the card price; paying by bank transfer (ACH) or wire saves you 4%.

Is there a discount for buying more?

Yes — the per-unit price drops at 10 units. The table beside the price shows each break.

Can I spend it?

It is legal tender with a face value of €100 (EUR), but the face value is symbolic. Its worth is its gold content.

Why is the coin so wide?

The Austrian Mint strikes it thin and broad, 37 mm across, which makes the design easier to read and the coin easy to identify.

Can I hold this in an IRA?

Generally eligible for a precious metals IRA, though your custodian has the final say on what it accepts.

How will it be shipped?

Fully insured, in plain packaging with no reference to what's inside, and a signature is required on delivery. Tracking is emailed when it ships.
