About this coin
A quarter-ounce of Eagle for buyers who want gold in smaller, easier-to-sell pieces. Contains 0.25 troy oz of fine gold (22k (.9167)). Legal tender with a face value of $10 (USD), which is symbolic — its value is the metal. Year of our choice; condition brilliant uncirculated unless stated. Packaging: Individual capsule or mint tube of 40.
The quarter-ounce Gold Eagle is the middle size in the Eagle family: the same 22k alloy, the same design and the same government guarantee, in a coin that costs a quarter as much.
Smaller coins carry a higher premium per ounce because minting costs are much the same whatever the size. What you get in return is flexibility. Selling one quarter-ounce coin raises a few thousand dollars without breaking up a full ounce, which matters if you ever want to sell part of a holding.
Many buyers hold most of their gold in one-ounce coins and keep a few fractionals for that reason.
We ship the year we have in stock, brilliant uncirculated, in a capsule or a mint tube of 40.
Questions
How is the price of the Gold Eagle 1/4 oz calculated?
It contains 0.25 troy oz of fine gold. At the current spot price of $4,190.28/oz that metal is worth $1,047.57; our premium for one unit is $94.29 (9.0%), paying by bank transfer. The price updates with spot until you lock it at checkout for 10 minutes.
Why is the card price higher?
Card networks charge us a fee on every card payment. Our list price is the card price; paying by bank transfer (ACH) or wire saves you 4%.
Is there a discount for buying more?
Yes — the per-unit price drops at 10 units. The table beside the price shows each break.
Can I spend it?
It is legal tender with a face value of $10 (USD), but the face value is symbolic. Its worth is its gold content.
Why is the premium higher than the 1 oz coin?
Minting, handling and shipping cost nearly the same per coin whatever it weighs, so those costs are spread over less gold.
Can I hold this in an IRA?
Generally eligible for a precious metals IRA, though your custodian has the final say on what it accepts.
How will it be shipped?
Fully insured, in plain packaging with no reference to what's inside, and a signature is required on delivery. Tracking is emailed when it ships.
