About this coin
The lowest-cost way into a government-minted gold coin. Higher premium per ounce, lowest ticket. Contains 0.1 troy oz of fine gold (22k (.9167)). Legal tender with a face value of $5 (USD), which is symbolic — its value is the metal. Year of our choice; condition brilliant uncirculated unless stated. Packaging: Individual capsule or mint tube of 50.
The tenth-ounce Gold Eagle is the smallest coin in the series and the cheapest way into government-minted gold.
It holds one tenth of a troy ounce of fine gold in the same 22k alloy as its larger siblings, with the same Saint-Gaudens Liberty on the obverse. The coin is about the size of a US dime, so it is easy to store and easy to hand over.
Expect the highest premium per ounce in the Eagle range. People buy these anyway, either to start without committing thousands of dollars, or to hold gold in pieces small enough to spend or give.
We ship the year we have in stock, brilliant uncirculated, in a capsule or a mint tube of 50.
Questions
How is the price of the Gold Eagle 1/10 oz calculated?
It contains 0.1 troy oz of fine gold. At the current spot price of $4,190.28/oz that metal is worth $419.03; our premium for one unit is $54.47 (13.0%), paying by bank transfer. The price updates with spot until you lock it at checkout for 10 minutes.
Why is the card price higher?
Card networks charge us a fee on every card payment. Our list price is the card price; paying by bank transfer (ACH) or wire saves you 4%.
Is there a discount for buying more?
Yes — the per-unit price drops at 20 units. The table beside the price shows each break.
Can I spend it?
It is legal tender with a face value of $5 (USD), but the face value is symbolic. Its worth is its gold content.
Is this a good first gold purchase?
It's the cheapest entry, but you pay the highest premium per ounce. If you're buying more than a few hundred dollars of gold, a one-ounce coin or bar puts more metal in your hands for the money.
Can I hold this in an IRA?
Generally eligible for a precious metals IRA, though your custodian has the final say on what it accepts.
How will it be shipped?
Fully insured, in plain packaging with no reference to what's inside, and a signature is required on delivery. Tracking is emailed when it ships.
