About this bar
A credit-card-sized bar of fifty 1 g pieces you can snap apart, so you can sell or give a single gram without breaking up a larger bar. Contains 1.6076 troy oz of fine gold (.9999). Packaging: Sealed assay card; the bar snaps into fifty 1 g pieces.
Valcambi's CombiBar is a 50 gram bar of .9999 fine gold made as fifty 1 gram pieces joined together, about the size of a credit card. Each piece is stamped with its weight and purity and snaps off by hand.
That makes it the most divisible way to hold gold: you can sell, trade or give a single gram without breaking up a larger bar. The premium is higher than a solid bar of the same weight, and far lower than buying fifty separate 1 gram bars.
It ships in its assay packaging. Keep it intact until you need a piece.
Questions
How is the price of the 50 g Gold CombiBar calculated?
It contains 1.60755 troy oz of fine gold. At the current spot price of $4,024.65/oz that metal is worth $6,469.83; our premium for one unit is $219.97 (3.4%), paying by bank transfer. The price updates with spot until you lock it at checkout for 10 minutes.
Why is the card price higher?
Card networks charge us a fee on every card payment. Our list price is the card price; paying by bank transfer (ACH) or wire saves you 4%.
Can it go in an IRA?
Yes: it meets the IRS fineness rules for a precious-metals IRA. It must be held by an IRA custodian at an approved depository, not at home, and the custodian has the final say on what it accepts.
How do the pieces come apart?
Each 1 g segment is scored. Bend it back and forth gently at the groove and it breaks off cleanly.
Can I hold this in an IRA?
Generally eligible for a precious metals IRA, though your custodian has the final say on what it accepts.
How will it be shipped?
Fully insured, in plain packaging with no reference to what's inside, and a signature is required on delivery. Tracking is emailed when it ships.
