About this coin

The Mexican Libertad is struck by Casa de Moneda de México, the oldest mint in the Americas, founded in 1535.
Each coin holds one troy ounce of .999 fine silver. The obverse shows the Mexican coat of arms, and the reverse the Winged Victory of the Independence Monument with the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes behind her. Like the Krugerrand, the Libertad carries no face value.
Mintages are small compared with Eagles and Maples, so Libertads attract collectors as well as bullion buyers, and older dates sometimes trade above their silver content.
