About this 90% coin
Pre-1965 US dimes and quarters, sold by face value. Each $1 of face holds about 0.715 oz of silver after wear. Contains 0.715 troy oz of fine silver (.900). Legal tender with a face value of $1 per unit, which is symbolic — its value is the metal. Packaging: Mixed pre-1965 dimes and/or quarters, circulated.
Pre-1965 US dimes and quarters, struck in 90% silver, sold by face value. One unit is $1 in face value, which holds about 0.715 troy ounces of silver once normal wear is allowed for.
Collectors call it junk silver, which refers to the condition rather than the metal: these are circulated coins with no collector premium, valued for their silver. Because they are US legal tender in small, familiar denominations, they are the easiest silver to sell to private buyers, and they divide naturally into small amounts.
You get a mix of dimes and quarters, dates and mints of our choice, all circulated. Premiums per ounce move around more than for new coins, because supply depends on what comes back through the market.
Questions
How is the price of the 90% Silver, $1 face calculated?
It contains 0.715 troy oz of fine silver. At the current spot price of $49.29/oz that metal is worth $35.24; our premium for one unit is $4.35 (12.3%), paying by bank transfer. The price updates with spot until you lock it at checkout for 10 minutes.
Why is the card price higher?
Card networks charge us a fee on every card payment. Our list price is the card price; paying by bank transfer (ACH) or wire saves you 4%.
Is there a discount for buying more?
Yes — the per-unit price drops at 10 and 100 units. The table beside the price shows each break.
Can I spend it?
It is legal tender with a face value of $1 per unit, but the face value is symbolic. Its worth is its silver content.
How much silver is in $1 face value?
About 0.715 troy ounces for circulated coins. Uncirculated coins hold marginally more, but worn coins are the trading standard.
Can I hold this in an IRA?
No. IRA rules require .999 fine silver, and these coins are 90%.
How will it be shipped?
Fully insured, in plain packaging with no reference to what's inside, and a signature is required on delivery. Tracking is emailed when it ships.
