What is the platinum spot price?
The spot price is what one troy ounce (31.1035 g) of raw platinum trades for right now on the wholesale market. It moves almost continuously from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon, New York time.
You can't buy a coin or bar at spot: minting, distribution, insurance and dealer margin add a premium. We show spot value and premium separately on every product, so the only number to compare between dealers is the premium.
There are 31.1035 grams in a troy ounce, so the price per gram is the ounce price divided by 31.1035. Jewellery is usually less than pure — 18k is 75% platinum, 14k is 58.5% — so multiply by purity for scrap value, or use our melt value calculator.
