About this coin

Platinum from the Royal Canadian Mint with the Maple Leaf's radial lines and security mark. Contains 1 troy oz of fine platinum (.9995). Legal tender with a face value of $50 (CAD), which is symbolic — its value is the metal. Year of our choice; condition brilliant uncirculated unless stated. Packaging: Individual capsule.

The Royal Canadian Mint has struck platinum Maple Leafs since 1988, and they remain one of the few platinum coins produced consistently year after year.

Each coin holds one troy ounce of .9995 fine platinum with a $50 Canadian face value, and carries the same maple leaf design as the gold and silver coins.

Premiums on platinum coins are higher than on gold, because mintages are small and the metal is harder to work. The market is thinner too, so plan on selling to a dealer.

Platinum is also lighter than gold for its value, so a platinum holding takes up more space than the same money in gold.

We ship the year we have in stock, in a capsule.

Questions

How is the price of the Platinum Maple 1 oz calculated?

It contains 1 troy oz of fine platinum. At the current spot price of $1,587.95/oz that metal is worth $1,587.95; our premium for one unit is $111.16 (7.0%), paying by bank transfer. The price updates with spot until you lock it at checkout for 10 minutes.

Why is the card price higher?

Card networks charge us a fee on every card payment. Our list price is the card price; paying by bank transfer (ACH) or wire saves you 4%.

Is there a discount for buying more?

Yes — the per-unit price drops at 10 units. The table beside the price shows each break.

Can I spend it?

It is legal tender with a face value of $50 (CAD), but the face value is symbolic. Its worth is its platinum content.

Is platinum harder to sell than gold?

Yes. Fewer dealers keep platinum in stock and spreads are wider, so it suits holding rather than frequent trading.

Can I hold this in an IRA?

Generally eligible for a precious metals IRA, though your custodian has the final say on what it accepts.

How will it be shipped?

Fully insured, in plain packaging with no reference to what's inside, and a signature is required on delivery. Tracking is emailed when it ships.
